Alpine Meadows, the Face Banzai. It all started with Saturday Qualifying. Winning the "Bank of the West Top Qualifying Awards" and $50 cash were Men Ski Johnny Bochenek 1:14.19, Men SNB Chelone Miller 1:31.38, Women Ski Hannah Jermstad 1:39.84 and Women SNB Iris Lazzareschi 2:13.63. Sunday heats, dropping into Wolverine Bowl the action was on for the holeshot. Three turns sent competitors with good speed into the meadow and gave them a little time to think of what was coming up. The Face or "mine field" as it came to be known was the ultimate test of what you're made of. This section was a crowd favorite for the tactics being used by the competitors. Those who play it safe can stay on their feet, but risk giving up a position or speed out the bottom. Johnny Bochenek showed that he had the guts to send it and make a pass on Jesse Maddex in the Men Ski Final. Maddex put on a charge at the bottom and they produced the closest race in Banzai history at the finish line. It was a physically demanding run with line options and crazy terrain through Kangaroo gully finishing under the Summit Chair. Uncle E and Roy Tuscany kept the play by play call alive for all athletes and fans form when the gate dropped to crossing the line with the power of BOSE from Squaw Valley Electric. Rahlves' Banzai Apres Party, hosted by High Fives Foundation and Alpine Meadows went off at The Last Chair Bar where for every Sierra Nevada and Red Bull sold, $1 went to High Fives plus 100% of raffle proceeds.
